Beginnings and Endings

The majority of people intend to start and finish well, but when life happens, things can go sideways pretty quickly. In a year like this, we all started with the greatest intentions as we hammered out our New Year’s resolutions and resolved that this year wouldn’t be like last year. And boy were we right in all the wrong ways! When COVID-19 hit, it seemed as if someone took the nicely placed pieces of our lives and shook them into chaos. It was as if nothing was certain any longer, and the end of the tunnel was nowhere in sight. If the story of this year stopped there, it would be pretty bleak.
However, as believers, something like a pandemic should not discourage or depress us, rather it should edify and empower us to look to our great God! David echoes this truth when he declares, “I waited patiently for the Lord; He inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure” (‭‭Psalm‬ ‭40:1-2‬).
So as we finish up this year, I encourage you – I implore you not to throw out these next few months. This may be the best year you ever had, not in spite of COVID-19, but perhaps BECAUSE of COVID-19. God’s will being accomplished through suffering rather than in spite of suffering (Gen 50:20; Rom 8:28). Let your intentions become reality and start now to finish 2020 well, not in man’s eyes, but in God’s.
In Christ,
Pastor Chris
